Its goal is to reduce emissions to net zero by 2050.<\/p><p data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"527\">However, our only concern is that the plan seems to be too reliant on the electrification of everything.<\/p><p data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"658\">For example, the Traverse City Climate Plan aims to transition its schools&#8217; 100-diesel school bus fleet to electric school buses.<\/p><p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"847\">Yet replacing those diesel school buses with electric buses will cost the city around $40 million. In contrast, if we purchase propane buses instead, it will only cost around $10 million.<\/p><p data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"982\">Importantly, Michigan already has a long history of using propane vehicles. In fact, there are over 33,000 of them on Michigan roads.<\/p><p data-start=\"984\" data-end=\"1174\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Overall, we agree with most of the reasons that are driving the growth of electric vehicles. Nonetheless, propane deserves a seat at the table as a clean, affordable, and proven alternative.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5aaa070 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5aaa070\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>\u00a0<\/h3><h3>Propane Vehicles Are Already Delivering Results in Northern Michigan<\/h3><ul><li><strong>Our local Benzie Bus operator is helping us meet Traverse City\u2019s Climate Plan goals.<\/strong><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><\/li><li class=\"x_gmail-p2\" data-ogsc=\"\"><strong>Currently, their fleet of 20 propane-fueled transport vehicles is saving taxpayers a significant amount of money. This is because propane is cheaper than diesel, engines require less maintenance, and performance remains strong, with comparable power and torque to diesel engines.<\/strong><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><\/li><li class=\"x_gmail-p2\" data-ogsc=\"\"><strong>Meanwhile, since 2016, the Bay Area Transportation Authority\u2019s propane fleet has cut Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions by over 90%. These pollutants, emitted by older diesel buses, are known to worsen asthma and other respiratory conditions.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ul data-ogsc=\"rgb(61, 61, 61)\"><li data-ogsc=\"\"><p data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"1182\"><strong>Beyond our region, scientists and human rights groups are raising growing concerns about the environmental and ethical costs of electric vehicles. In the Congo, where 75% of the world\u2019s cobalt supply originates, militia-controlled mines are using children and adults under hazardous conditions to extract this critical battery ingredient.<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6510a7c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6510a7c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul
